―Mokka
Mokka is a party member in Magical Starsign. He is an ancient robot who attends Will-o'-Wisp Academy on Kovomaka and specializes in the earth starsign. Built thousands of years ago by an ancient civilization, Mokka is equipped with an incomplete artificial intelligence program titled Ribbit Ribbit β, though he has little to no memory of his past. He was enrolled in Will-o'-Wisp after Principal Biscotti purchased him at an antiques market, and his body was reassembled using choice parts from nine other units. When Mokka and his classmates blast off into outer space to find Miss Madeleine, he lands on Cassia where his head is stolen to power a heat generator. Mokka uses his industrial know-how to assist his friends after being rescued, but along the way, he learns the dark truth behind his creation.
Mokka is portrayed as sarcastic with a dry sense of humor and an arsenal of one-liners, while simultaneously taking the part of the logical member of the group. He can even be a bit stubborn and impatient; however, he occasionally shows a softer side around his close friends, and secretly yearns for romance.[2] In Japanese, his dialogue is written in Café au Lait Font (), and mostly uses the Katakana script with the occasional Kanji.
He is mainly composed of a brown metal and has many screws around his body. There are exactly six small ones and two large ones on his chest, and five on his head. He also has quite a few sectioned parts where joints are, like on his legs and feet. He has three fingers on each hand, each composed of three silver joints, and are attached to a gray metal socket on each palm. Also on his arm are decorative indents in the metal plating. Mokka has one singular orange eye that rests on his bucket-shaped head. Also on his head are three brass funnels. On his back, Mokka has two cylindrical tanks.
Gameplay
Mokka joins the party at Tangerine Beach on Cassia after defeating the hermit lab and obtaining the battery pack, starting at level 5. He uses the earthstarsign, which is strong against water, but weak to wind, and gains his aura when Erd is in phase. His magic is mostly distributed equally when cast from the back row, and has a chance to turn enemies to stone. His support spell, vibrant dance, will increases allies' stats when their HP are high. Performance-wise, Mokka has incredible HP, power, and defense, but low MP, MP%, and agility.
Mokka was found by Principal Biscotti in a small curiosity shop. Actually, the principal bought ten units and used nine for spare parts to rebuild Mokka, so that makes him a special custom model of sorts.

Although his outward appearance and expressions never change, he is rich with emotions and can communicate with machines on a heartfelt level. His relationship to the similarly-named robot from the previous work[b] is unclear.

Mokka was created around 12800 years ago by the Espresso civilization, a group from Puffoon who settled on Erd to develop the robot AI program Ribbit Ribbit. He was one of several prototypes for Ribbit Ribbit β (Beta), the second incomplete version of the program that used PSI forces to twist the fabric of space, replicated from the psychic powers of human test subjects. The Espressos' leader Calzone wanted to use this feature to physically reach the "land of light", or Nova, inside the sun of the Baklava solar system. Unlike the previous model of robots, which operated on Ribbit Ribbit α (Alpha), the Beta program was planned to make its robots more emotionally complex. However, while the Beta robots were still in development, the Espressos were told by the brownies to cease operations, so development on the Beta program was significantly rushed. They disobeyed five consecutive warnings until the brownies finally declared war, joining with the nine stone giants to overthrow the Kahve plant where the robots and their gummy fuel were being manufactured. In an attempt to fight back, the Espressos seemingly programmed their Beta robots to attack the stone giants,[3] resulting in eight of them getting destroyed. The Alpha robots and some Betas also persecuted the Espressos, turning them all into gummies to power their battery cores.
As for Mokka, he was somehow launched off of Erd and wound up on Kovomaka thousands of years later. He was discovered at an antiques market by Principal Biscotti, who noticed he had the incomplete Ribbit Ribbit β program installed, and purchased him with nine other units. Enrolling Mokka in Will-o'-Wisp Academy, Biscotti rebuilt him using high-quality parts from the other units. Mokka was placed in Low Class B with Miss Madeleine as his homeroom teacher, and became close friends with the protagonist, Lassi, Chai, Pico, and Sorbet.

After Magical Starsign
As the students resumed their studies at Will-o'-Wisp, Lassi taught herself rocket science and published several articles, which were filled with errors and ridiculed by the public. Mokka devoted himself to assisting Lassi, and after ten years of failed developments, he asked to be modified into her rocket. Lassi reluctantly accepted Mokka's sacrifice, reassembling him into an incomplete new-model rocket. Meanwhile on Erd, the protagonist and the dwarves detected a faint signal in outer space, using a radio telescope they constructed out of the Kahve Ruins. When the protagonist boarded Rocket Mokka, Chai stowed away in a space between the main engine and fuel tank, and the three blasted off beyond the Baklava system.[4][c]
Found by the Will-o'-Wisp Academy principal in a curiosity shop, Mokka is an antique robot remade from old parts. Mokka studies with his classmates despite his sometimes different view of things. Physically strong and tough on defense, Mokka also has a sensor for scanning surroundings. We even see Mokka fall in love, depending on the story line.

He is one of the close friends who studies with everyone at the Magic School, and has a fondness for jokes. He has great physical strength and defense, so he exudes toughness in battle. He even has the ability to check his surroundings using a sensor. There is also a side of him that yearns for romance.
All of Mokka's magic spells in the Japanese version come from German words. Despite his localized name Mokka being a German word itself, his spells were given new names in overseas releases, including the German localization.
In the Japanese version, Mokka is able to speak English, albeit phonetically translated as Katakana. When he is rebooted on Cassia, for example, he says, "Hello~ Hello~ This is Caffè Latte speakin'..." in English.[5]
Mokka is the only party member whose gender is unspecified. His profiles in Nintendō Kōshiki Guidebook and Mahō Wakusei Kansoku Nyūmonsho list his gender as "?".[1] He addresses himself with the personal pronoun オレ ore in Japanese, which is predominantly used by men, and overseas releases of Magical Starsign refer to him with masculine pronouns.
According to Shinichi Kameoka, Mokka and Café au Lait are as different as Dom and Rick Dom from the Gundam franchise.[6] Even though both characters look alike, Café au Lait is 64 centimeters taller than Mokka, while Mokka is 78 kilograms heavier than Café au Lait.
Nomenclature
His name comes from mokka, meaning "mocha" in German, a mixture of coffee and chocolate.
↑Assuming Mokka is in some way related to Café au Lait, his age would be at least 12800. In Magical Vacation, Café au Lait explicitly states he was built 12000 years ago, and Magical Starsign takes place roughly 800 years after that game.
↑In the English localization, this scene is changed to Lassi "[leaving] Baklava forever" aboard Rocket Mokka "in search of new worlds," when no such details exist in the original Japanese version. This change also contradicts the protagonist's epilogue segment, in which they can be seen flying the Rocket Mokka.
