Nomenclature
Its name may come from Armageddon, a biblical hill in Megiddo where, according to the New Testament, the final battle between good and evil will take place before the Day of Judgement. It may also come from magel, a potential variant of the ancient Germanic name Machthild, meaning "strength in battle".
