Origin
Uffa Luffa's Japanese name, Mahety Popo (マヘティ・ポポ, Maheti Popo), comes from Brownies personnel Shintarō "Poppo" Makino. Mahety comes from ヘチマ hechima (loofa), since Makino was growing loofa plants at the time; this may also be where his English name, Uffa Luffa, comes from. He and his Link Rune spirits, Rowdy Keyser and Dapper Soze, represent the game's main programming team, which consists of Makino, Akihiro Ichiki, and Sō Kadamoto.[1] Together, they form Kleptoteam Trust xxx (T3X).
According to Mika Tanaka, Uffa Luffa was going to look like an ordinary bird, but earned his current design after it was requested that his design be more interesting. Once it was finalized, Shintarō Makino protested that he wanted "[his] guy to look handsome". Tanaka supposedly had trouble figuring out how to handle Uffa Luffa and how he would speak. In the Eggpedia, it is revealed that Uffa Luffa is a prince and a distant relative of Adrys, which was Tanaka's way of giving Makino the handsome character he desired. Uffa Luffa is also scared of flesh-and-blood humans because they make unreasonable demands, equating them to devils.[2]
