Putties are a species in the Magical Vacation series. They mainly live in Kugande Village on the Dark Plane and Shishkebab Cavern on Razen.

Profile

Putties are bipedal, wobbly, gray masses of konjac with small blue eyes. They are born when putty peas get boiled and mashed, then cooled off in a mold.[1] Their square bodies flop around when they walk, and are said to repel the sharpest of swords, but they can go stale if exposed to sunlight for too long. When they do not have access to water, putties use sheer will to keep themselves hydrated.[2] In Japanese, putties end sentences with でぺたん depetan or ぺたこん petakon, a sound effect for flopping over. Their names are also written in Café au Lait Font.

In Magical Vacation, putties are named after famous philosophers, whereas in Magical Starsign, their names come from various flowers and spices.

History

Magical Vacation

Some time ago, Kugande Village's putty population began to decline, so Bachelard set out on a journey across various to find putty peas, which he could use to create new putties. Bachelard encountered the party a few times on the Light Plane, but did not find any putty peas there. Upon returning to Kugande Village, Bachelard met Mace and Cinnamon, who promised help repopulate the village. The party also assisted Bachelard, obtaining every putty pea to make Kugande Village flourish once again.

Magical Starsign

Several hundreds of years later, another putty named Cardoon arrived at the Stone Stage in the depths of Shishkebab Cavern on Razen. Finding it a suitable environment for his people, he tasked the party with gathering putty peas around the Baklava solar system. In doing so, they filled the cavern with new putties, who each sang parts of a song about the universe's creation.
